Stahl, a leading surface expert and Ananas Anam, a pioneer company in innovation and product development within the circular economy, announce their intentions to collaborate to enhance the performance and sustainability of Pinatex, a natural textile made from pineapple leaf fibre. This joint R&D will represent a breakthrough in the sustainable, innovative new materials that are at the forefront of the needs of the 21st century.
“Stahl is always looking for ways to reduce the environmental footprint of the industry,” Michael Costello, Director of Sustainability at Stahl, says. “That’s why we are proud to partner up with Piñatex® to finish such a unique material with bio-based solutions. This is a great example of how more circular innovative materials can be introduced to the market,” he continued.
Piñatex® is a natural plant-based and versatile material made of fibres from pineapple leaves, a by-product of the pineapple harvest. From initial sampling to developing a viable supply chain, Piñatex® journey is inspired by the principles of a circular economy and cradle-to-cradle values. Piñatex® is patent-protected and is being marketed to the fashion and accessories, upholstery and automotive industries.
Both companies are committed to developing products and systems in tune with the values of a circular economy, combining research and innovation to enhance the well-being of the earth and its people through the entire life cycle of the product and needs of future generations.
