The Textile Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (India)
[TMMA (I)] held its 65th Annual General Meeting, Export and R&D
Awards Ceremony, and a high-level stakeholder consultation with the Ministry of
Textiles on September 19, 2025, at the ITME Centre, Mumbai. The event brought
together industry leaders, exporters, researchers, and policymakers to
deliberate on the future of India’s Textile Engineering Industry (TEI).
At the AGM, new office bearers were elected for the
biennium FY 2025-27, including Chairman Prashant Mangukia (Yamuna Machine
Works), First Vice Chairman Chintan Thumar (Weavetech Engineers Ltd.), Second
Vice Chairman N. K. Brahmachari (Amritlakshmi Machine Works), and Honorary
Treasurer Ganesh Shanoy (Tex-Fab Industries Pvt. Ltd.).
Outgoing Chairman M. Sankar, in his address, highlighted
that textile machinery production in FY 2024-25 fell by 29% to ₹10,461 crore,
while exports halved due to global challenges. Despite this, the share of
indigenous machinery in domestic demand increased from 28% to 36% over five
years. He urged faster GST refunds, low-cost export finance, and tariff support
for exporters to sustain competitiveness.
Chief Guest Rohit Kansal, Additional Secretary, Ministry
of Textiles, emphasised that India’s textile ecosystem is among the most
comprehensive globally and projected the sector to grow from US$176 billion to US$350
billion, including US$100 billion in exports, in the coming years. He noted
that the domestic textile machinery sector currently meets only half of India’s
requirements, leaving a ₹17,000 crore import gap. Kansal stressed
sustainability, circularity, and the proposed National Textile Manufacturing
Mission as key to achieving Vision 2030 and beyond.
TMMA also recognised excellence in exports and
innovation. Rieter India won the Apex Export Award, while companies such as
Kirloskar Toyota, Truetzschler India, Premier Evolvics, and Colorjet India were
among the winners across categories. The Indian Card Clothing Co. received the
Innovation Award for its non-metallic card wire for jute carding, while
Colorjet, Rabatex, and Sieger Spintech earned R&D Certificates of
Appreciation. The AGM reaffirmed TMMA’s role in driving innovation,
sustainability, and policy advocacy, positioning India’s TEI as a global leader
in competitiveness and technology.
