British
firm Epoch Biodesign, backed by Inditex, has joined the T2T Alliance, a
coalition of European textile recyclers, to accelerate regulatory clarity and
advance its planned nylon biorecycling facility. The move comes as Epoch scales
up its technology, aiming to establish Europe’s first industrial-scale nylon
biorecycling plant capable of converting textile waste into new materials.
The
company emphasizes that regulatory standards are crucial for mainstream
adoption of advanced recycling. Through the alliance, Epoch will help shape
enforceable frameworks and market signals to promote textile-to-textile
recycling as the industry standard.
Epoch’s
platform uses engineered enzymes to break down complex textiles and mixed
plastics at low temperatures, enabling recycling of hard-to-process materials
and moving toward nearly infinite recycling loops. In February, the company
partnered with Invista to produce post-consumer recycled nylon 6.6 with quality
equivalent to virgin material, combining enzymatic recycling with Invista’s
industrial expertise.
