Outlast Extends Cooling Textile Technology To Cotton And Viscose Segments

Outlast Technologies has expanded its fresh2SKIN cooling technology to cotton and viscose, enabling natural fibres to deliver instant cooling and long-lasting thermal regulation. The development targets next to skin categories such as innerwear, activewear and bedding, where comfort performance is critical.

Volker Schuster, Head of Research & Development at Outlast Technologies states “achieving this exceptionally natural handfeel on cellulose-based fibers such as cotton or viscose was a key objective for our development team”. He also added “our goal was to integrate the fresh2SKIN® functionality without compromising the authentic character of these materials. The result are textiles that feel completely natural while delivering an immediately noticeable cooling effect.”

The technology integrates microencapsulated phase change materials that absorb, store and release heat, stabilising body temperature and reducing perspiration. Industry estimates show the global functional textiles market is expected to exceed US$ 250 billion by 2030, driven by rising demand for performance apparel and climate adaptive fabrics.

Fresh2SKIN maintains the natural hand-feel of cellulose fibres while delivering a noticeable cooling sensation at first contact. The finish can be applied through standard dip coating processes, ensuring scalability across textile mills. Growing consumer preference for comfort driven apparel is accelerating adoption of such innovations across both mass and premium segments.
