India has introduced 44 new tariff lines by amending the
Customs Tariff Act, effective 1 May 2026. The move aims to improve import
tracking and implement commitments under the US trade deal. New classifications
cover products such as frozen krill, cranberry products, chemicals, battery
components and refrigerated containers. The changes include immediate duty
elimination for some goods, phased cuts over up to 10 years, preferential
margins and Tariff Rate Quotas (TRQs) for sensitive items.
