British Textile Machinery Association (BTMA) plans to
launch the UK India Textile Machinery Coalition on May 8 at the India ITME
Centre in Mumbai, marking a strategic push to deepen bilateral industry
collaboration.
The move follows the UK India Free Trade Agreement
signed in July 2025, which removes duties of nearly 8% to 12% on Indian textile
exports to the UK, significantly improving cost competitiveness. India already
accounts for nearly 23% of global cotton production and remains one of the
largest textile manufacturing hubs, valued at over US$165 billion.
BTMA CEO Jason Kent stated that India continues to
invest heavily in modernising spinning, weaving, and finishing infrastructure,
creating strong demand for advanced machinery solutions.
The coalition aims to enhance market access for UK
machinery suppliers while enabling Indian manufacturers to upgrade technology
and productivity. Industry experts expect this collaboration to strengthen
supply chain efficiency and support long term export growth across both
markets.
