The International Woolmark Prize 2026 has officially opened applications, launching a global search for the next generation of fashion innovators working with Merino wool. Recognised as one of the industry's most prestigious awards, the programme aims to spotlight designers advancing creativity, sustainability, and textile innovation.
Designers must have between four and ten years of commercial experience, either through independent labels or established fashion brands. Applicants are also required to demonstrate innovative textile development, responsible sourcing practices, and strong supply chain integrity.
The winner will receive AU$300,000, while all finalists will be awarded AU$60,000 to develop six Merino wool looks under the Woolmark incubation programme. Participants will also gain access to expert mentorship covering sourcing, product development, and sustainability.
The initiative arrives at a time when sustainability remains a key industry priority. Global wool fibre production is estimated at around 1.1 million tonnes annually, while demand continues to rise for natural, biodegradable, and traceable materials across premium fashion segments.
