Advanced Textile Technology Will Power India’s Textile Industry Growth: UMPESL

India's textile industry is entering a transformative phase where advanced machinery, automation and sustainable processing technologies will determine global competitiveness, according to Pradip Roy, Head of Textile Machinery Division, UMPESL. Speaking to Textile Excellence during Bharat Tex 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Roy said the recently concluded Free Trade Agreements with the United Kingdom and the European Union, coupled with the global China Plus One sourcing strategy, are expected to accelerate investments across the entire textile value chain. He noted that India's ambition to increase textile and apparel exports from around US$ 37 billion to US$ 100 billion will require significant technological upgradation across spinning, weaving, knitting, processing and garment manufacturing.

Roy identified dyeing and finishing as the segment requiring the highest level of technological investment, particularly in man made fibre processing. He emphasised that future growth will depend on machinery capable of reducing water, salt and chemical consumption while improving productivity and environmental performance. Artificial intelligence, automation and next generation processing technologies are already reshaping textile manufacturing, enabling higher efficiency and sustainable production practices.

Highlighting UMPESL's long standing presence in the sector, Roy said the company has more than seven decades of experience supplying advanced textile machinery across India. Its portfolio spans weaving, knitting, dyeing, processing and garment manufacturing equipment, supported by a nationwide service network and a large team of specialised textile engineers.
