The Northern India Textile Research Association has
completed an NTTM sponsored project that has delivered three advanced
instruments to test the thermal performance of protective textiles. The project
focused on the indigenous development of precision systems to evaluate
convective, radiant, and conductive heat resistance in line with global testing
protocols.
The institute developed a Convective Heat Tester conforming
to ISO 9151, a Radiant Heat Tester aligned to ISO 6942, and a Contact Heat
Tester meeting IS 12127 standards. These instruments are critical in certifying
protective clothing used in firefighting, defence, foundries, and high
temperature industrial operations.
India’s technical textiles market is estimated at over US$26
billion and is projected to reach nearly US$40 to US$45 billion by 2030.
Protective textiles represent a high value segment driven by safety regulations
and industrial expansion. The new testing systems are expected to strengthen
domestic certification capacity and reduce dependence on imported equipment.
