TEA Engages Indian Consulate In Birmingham On UK FTA, Trade Fairs And Market Access

Tiruppur Exporters Association (TEA) held an interaction with Dr Venkatachalam Murugan, Consulate General of India in Birmingham, to discuss the progress and expected timeline of the India UK Free Trade Agreement. The discussion highlighted the strategic importance of the UK market, which imported over US$ 19 billion worth of apparel in 2024, while India’s share remained below 6%.

TEA requested details of major textile and apparel fairs in the UK and sought support in facilitating visa recommendation letters for members travelling to the US on business. The association proposed targeted advertising in Drapers Record magazine to connect UK buyers with Indian manufacturers and suggested buyer seller meets focused on MSME exporters. Dr Murugan noted that more than 150 Indian companies participate in UK fairs every year. He also pointed to the State Facilitation Fund and advised TEA to approach the MAI team to support trade promotion activities.
