workers at Fashion Pulse in Bangladesh have formed the country’s first union
under recently amended labour laws, giving them the legal right to bargain for
better wages and safer workplaces. With support from BIGUF and the Solidarity
Center, 160 workers in the Gazipur industrial zone navigated complex
registration requirements, overcoming government hurdles. The union, Fashion
Pulse Limited Sramik Union, marks a milestone in empowering workers in a sector
that drives over 80% of Bangladesh’s exports. Leaders now aim to expand
membership, strengthen collective bargaining, and secure fair pay,
demonstrating how legal reforms can translate into real workplace rights.
