Giriraj Singh Visits Indie Haat, Highlights India's Living Legacy of Handlooms and Handicrafts

Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh visited Indie Haat, a special showcase celebrating India's vibrant handloom and handicraft heritage, at the National Crafts Museum and Hastkala Academy, New Delhi, on Tuesday. Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, along with senior ministry officials, accompanied the Minister during the visit.

Organised alongside Bharat Tex 2026, Indie Haat has brought together artisans, weavers and master craftspeople from across the country, offering visitors an immersive experience of India's diverse textile traditions and indigenous craftsmanship. The exhibition features an extensive range of handwoven textiles, handcrafted products and region-specific art forms while providing artisans direct access to buyers, designers and international visitors.

India's handloom sector remains one of the country's largest rural employment generators, supporting more than 3.5 million people, while the handicrafts sector provides livelihoods to over 7 million artisans. Industry stakeholders believe platforms such as Indie Haat play a vital role in preserving traditional skills, expanding market access and strengthening the global identity of Indian handmade products. The initiative also complements the government's vision of promoting sustainable livelihoods, cultural preservation and self-reliant economic growth through indigenous craftsmanship.
