Italian Textile Machinery Orders Rebound In Q2 2026

Italy's textile machinery industry showed encouraging signs of recovery during the second quarter of 2026 despite continued pressure on annual order volumes, according to the latest ACIMIT Textile Machinery Order Index.

The order index stood at 46.6 points, based on 2021 as the benchmark, representing a 3% decline compared to Q2 2025. Domestic orders fell 25% year on year, while total orders during the first half of 2026 declined 4%, including an 11% drop in Italy and a 3% decrease in export markets.

Quarter on quarter performance reflected a strong turnaround. Total order intake surged 25% compared to Q1 2026, driven by a 39% increase in domestic demand and a 23% rise in international orders. Companies also reported an average production backlog of 3.5 months and a capacity utilisation rate of 79.7%. Strong demand was recorded in spinning, weaving, knitting, and finishing machinery.

Marco Salvadè, President of ACIMIT, said the positive trend in export markets was encouraging despite global uncertainty, noting that nearly 80% of the industry's order intake comes from overseas markets. He added that the domestic market remained under pressure due to comparison with a strong second quarter of 2025, while the benefits of Italy's 2026 to 2028 hyper-depreciation incentive introduced in June have yet to translate into fresh investments.
