Giriraj Singh Inaugurates Handloom Haat Experience Centre In New Delhi

Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh inaugurated Handloom Haat at Janpath in New Delhi on August 14 2026. The newly reimagined Handloom Experience Centre unites traditional heritage knowledge contemporary design and enterprise under a single roof. The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of Textiles Secretary Neelam Shami Rao and Development Commissioner M. Beena.

The inaugural showcase featured 24 award winning weavers through a specialized exhibition organized by the National Handloom Development Corporation. The event additionally hosted over 30 curated brands participating through the fifth edition of Weave The Future. This specific platform brought together weavers, designers and researchers to advance sustainable and circular textile practices. The showcase prominently featured contemporary products developed using indigenous fibres and regenerative materials.

The ground floor hosts a temporary exhibition titled Reimagining Odisha Weaves. This display highlights the revitalization of regional textile traditions including Ganjam Bomkai and Dhalapathar Tapestry alongside innovations in Ikat and natural dyes. Visitors exploring the first floor will discover the Visvakarma Gallery. This permanent space displays rare textiles from the landmark exhibition series originally held between 1981 and 1991. The gallery concurrently pays tribute to Sant Kabir and Padma Shri awardees recognizing their exceptional contributions.

The second floor features a Design Conclave offering an immersive visual journey inspired by natural motifs found across diverse Indian handloom traditions. The retail experience extends well beyond conventional shopping to create vital market access for artisans. Giriraj Singh stated, "Handloom Haat will create greater visibility and market opportunities for weavers and handloom enterprises." The prominent centre provides consumers a unique opportunity to explore the intricate processes behind handwoven textiles while supporting sustainable enterprise.
