Arti Kanwar has been appointed Additional Secretary in the Ministry
of Textiles, strengthening administrative leadership at a critical phase for
the sector’s global expansion. A 2001 batch IAS officer, she brings extensive
governance experience across infrastructure, finance, and industrial policy
domains.
The appointment comes as India targets US$100 billion in
textile exports over the medium term, supported by Production Linked Incentive
schemes, PM MITRA parks, and ongoing trade negotiations. India’s textile and
apparel exports stood near US$36 billion in FY2025, contributing around 2.3% to
GDP and employing over 45 million people directly.
Kanwar is expected to play a key role in accelerating policy
execution, enhancing ease of doing business, and strengthening global
competitiveness amid shifting trade dynamics. Focus areas are likely to include
sustainability compliance, value chain integration, and export diversification
as global sourcing patterns continue to evolve.
