Tamil Nadu Sets ₹1,000 Crore Technical Textile Investment Target By 2030

Tamil Nadu has unveiled an ambitious plan to attract ₹1,000 crore, equivalent to about US$ 117 million, in technical textile investments by 2030, reinforcing its leadership in India's textile value chain. The announcement was made at a technical textiles conference in Coimbatore, where the state highlighted its strategy to encourage micro, small and medium enterprises to diversify into high value segments such as medical, industrial, automotive, sports, agriculture, and construction textiles.

The state has already secured Memorandums of Understanding worth ₹123 crore for new technical textile projects. Five manufacturing units are planned across four regions during the next three years, alongside a Centre of Excellence dedicated to athleisure products to strengthen innovation and product development. Tamil Nadu currently exports textiles worth about US$ 8 billion annually and contributes nearly 22% to 23% of India's textile exports. The initiative aligns with India's broader vision of achieving US$ 100 billion in textile and apparel exports by 2030 through greater value addition and technical textile manufacturing.
