AEPC Chairman Highlights Apparel Export Opportunities During India-UK Trade Mission

India's apparel export industry received a strong boost during UK-India Week 2026 as A. Sakthivel, Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council, joined the high level business delegation led by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in London. The visit comes ahead of the implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and the Double Contribution Convention on 15 July 2026.

Dr. Sakthivel credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and congratulated Piyush Goyal on receiving the Exceptional Leadership in Elevating UK-India Ties award. He also held discussions with Peter Kyle MP, UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, focusing on expanding bilateral trade, innovation, investment, and fresh opportunities for India's apparel sector.

India's textile and apparel exports reached approximately US$ 36 billion in FY2025, while the United Kingdom remains among India's key export destinations for garments. Industry leaders expect the agreement to strengthen market access, improve competitiveness, and accelerate apparel exports to the UK.
