Century Enka Limited has strengthened its sustainability roadmap after signing a Power Purchase Agreement with ABREL Century Energy Limited to develop a 9.9 MW wind solar hybrid captive power project. The renewable energy facility will be developed and operated by ABREL Century Energy under India's captive power framework, enabling Century Enka to source clean electricity for its manufacturing operations while reducing dependence on conventional energy. The company will hold the mandatory 26% equity stake required under captive power regulations. A subsequent regulatory clarification confirmed the project's scheduled commissioning date as 30 June 2027, correcting an earlier disclosure.
The investment reflects the textile industry's growing shift towards decarbonisation and energy security amid increasing global sustainability expectations. India currently has an installed power generation capacity exceeding 524 GW, while renewable energy adoption continues to accelerate across industrial sectors through captive and hybrid projects. Renewable power integration is becoming a strategic priority for manufacturers seeking lower carbon emissions, improved energy efficiency and stronger environmental compliance.
